Community Transport

Community Transport Scheme

The DDYCA can offer local community groups vehicles for hire, saving the individual groups the expense of buying and running a vehicle of their own. The vehicles are usually  16 seater minibuses, some of which are  wheelchair accessible.

The following services on offer are:

Community Hire Scheme -We do not do self drive; however community groups, sports clubs and schools etc can hire out our minibuses with a driver at very competitive rates.  All drivers employed by the DDYCA are fully qualified, Midas trained and assessed and have all also undergone an enhanced CRB check.

Ring-a-Ride
The Ring-a-Ride Service is a door to door transport service. This scheme enables people who otherwise would have difficulty getting out of their homes to do everyday things; such as shopping or taking part in social events, travel to various parts of the town. The service is available only for local residents who must enrol as a member.

Children and Adult Services

We also provide a number of transport services for Darlington Borough Council, school and adult services.

Age Concern

We provide the day care transport services to Age Concern, five days per week.

Midas

Benefits of gaining a Midas qualification.

  1. Gives the driver a better awareness of potential risk factors.

  2. Enhancement of passenger safety.

  3. Potential reduction in insurance premiums.

  4. Increased driver confidence.

  5. Reduced stress on driver and increased passenger confidence.

  6. Better image for organisations.

  7. The Midas certificate is valid for four years and then a refresher is required.

How to register for Midas.

  1. Contact the office, and book a convenient date.
  2. Once  a date has been arranged and payment received, you will be receive information leaflets and a booklet to read, in order to prepare for a multi questionnaire, which will take approximately 25 minutes.
  3. Prior to the questionnaire there will be a theory session lasting approximately 2 hours.
  4. You will receive a practical driving session which will last approximately 1 hour


Community Transport Association
All of our services are operated under a section 19 permit through the Community Transport Association (CTA), who are a national representative body for the non-profit transport sector, they also run an advice and information service.
